Nepal commemorates Army Day annually at the same time as Mahashivratri, a festival dedicated to the Shiva, one of the principal deities of Hinduism. Mahashivratri celebrates the overcoming of darkness and ignorance in life. Nepalis often observe it with prayer, fasting and meditation.
